Holiday makeup trends

There were several beauty trends such as bold brows, smudged grunge eyeliner and lush lashes on fashion runways this season. From Alexander Wang to Dolce and Gabbana, designers were on top of it! I chose three different winter trends for you to incorporate into your holiday party looks. Let’s get started!

Dramatic Eyes

Tis the season for glam! It’s the perfect time of year to rock smokey eyes, glitter and a pop of colour.  If black is a bit too harsh for your liking, opt for a deep brown or gunmetal grey colour. As far as glitter goes, get crazy! Lining your upper lid with a traditional black liner and then using a glitter liner just under your waterline is, in my opinion, the perfect holiday eye look. It’s fun, sexy and festive!  You can also pop some glitter on to the centre of your lid to give them some extra sparkle.

Bold Lips

Bold lips are all the rage right now. The most common colours you’ll see this season are the berry, wine stained lip, deep burgundies and, of course, the classic bright red that we all know and love. If you’re feeling a bit daring, I would recommend trying out a deep, almost black-ish purple lip. It’s a bit intimidating at first but it’s sure to make a statement and get people talking! Also, don’t forget to line your lips before applying bold colors; bleeding lipstick isn’t a trend yet! Anyone who knows me knows that I love a nice, dark lip. My current favourite is No. 49 Rouge Artist Intense by Make Up For Ever ($23).

Dewy Skin

Your skin is the base for the rest of your makeup. Though many people focus on eyes, I firmly believe in having a flawless skin finish over anything else. With all the sparkly décor and bright lights during the holiday season, your skin shouldn’t fall short on being luminous as well! The easiest way to achieve glowy, dewy skin is to ease up on the face powder and have a little fun with highlighters.  Placement is key for this look; you want to get your cheekbones, centre of your forehead, down the bridge of your nose and your cupids bow.

Keep in mind that there really isn’t a standard/structured way to apply products; the key is to know your face, have fun and experiment. There is nothing more sexy than confidence!

Until next time, your friendly, neighborhood beauty addict!
