Beauty Files: 3 make-up looks for the holidays

Dec 19 2017, 9:03 pm

It’s officially December, which means cozy knits, warm drinks and holiday parties! Once you’ve figured out how to decorate your bod with the latest dress and accessories you’ve got to decide how you want to decorate your lovely face. False lashes, bold lips and glitter are an absolute must – step out of your comfort zone this holiday season and have some fun.

Try out one of our three go-to holiday make up looks for the season!

Soft Glam

Now this is my all time favourite look, anyone that knows me knows that smoked out eyes and nude lips are my comfort zone. This isn’t a look that most people would wear on an everyday basis but it’s classic, sexy and mysterious. Key items needed to create this look include:

  • Black, brown and champagne eye shadows
  • Creamy black eye liner
  • Lashes (thick, voluminous ones would create more drama ie: Ardell Glamour Lashes)

If you’re having trouble finding a nude lip for this look, I would recommend MAC’s lipstick in Myth or Honey Love for a fair skin tone, Marc Jacobs Gel Lipstick in Moody Margot or Strange Magic for a light to medium skin tone and Make Up For Ever’s Rouge Artist Intense in #26 or #28 for a medium to deep skin tone.

Classic Wing Red Lip

Classic Red Lip

Channel your inner Marilyn and rock a fire engine red! Pair your statement red with a winged out liner and some falsies and you’re ready to go! This look is a little bit more wearable than the previous one and it looks great on everyone – its just a matter of finding YOUR perfect red. Key items needed for this look:

  • Liquid or gel eye liner (whichever you’re most comfortable with)
  • Champagne shadow
  • Lashes (wispy, flared out ones to elongate your eye with the wing would be perfect!)

If you’re having trouble finding a red lip I’d recommend Make Up For Ever’s Rouge Artist Intense in #43 (this is the Moulin Rouge red lip that was created to flatter the variety of different skin tones in the movie). For this look I would stick to a true red such as ‘The Red” from Sephora Collection for fair to medium skin tones and deeper tones can go for reds that are a bit darker if they choose – Kat Von D’s Vampira would look stunning!

GLITTER

Frosted Lids

Mimic the sparkle of the snow on your lids! This is one of the few times a year you can go glitter crazy without getting funny looks. You could play it safe and go for a shimmer shadow OR you can let your inner five year old out to play and go big! Gold and silver are perfect for this time of year but if you want to be colourful, more power to ya. Keep the attention on your glitter dusted lids by opting for a soft nude instead of a bold lip! Key items needed for this look include:

  • Glitter (Lit Cosmetics comes with an adhesive or buy glitter individually from Make Up For Ever)
  • Glitter Adhesive – if needed (Too Faced Glitter Glue)
  • Lashes (anything goes – keep them soft to add definition to your lashes or go big to add even more drama to your look)

*Pro Tip

Apply glitter BEFORE any other make up – you may have fall out which will be a huge pain to clean up if you already have your foundation/base on. Also, be sure to pat the glitter onto your lid versus sweeping it – this will give you more control and an even application.
