Hockey dad shoves teenage referees to ice in shocking video

A video showing an adult making physical contact with two young referees during his son’s hockey game in Seattle has quickly gone viral.

As reported by FOX 13 Seattle, the unidentified man reportedly entered the ice after his son and another player got into a physical altercation. He claims he did so to protect his son, but the video suggests whatever prior incident took place had already been dealt with.

Both referees were treated for minor injuries by Seattle Fire Department medics. One reported pain in his hip and neck, while the other suffered an elbow injury. They, along with several witnesses, including the suspect’s wife, stated that the man entered the ice during a break in play and shoved the young officials after things between the two teams had already been calmed down.

“First and foremost, we want to extend our heartfelt concern for the officials, players, coaches and families involved in the recent incident at KCI,” the Seattle Kraken and the Kraken Community Iceplex said in a written statement. “We are in touch with them to offer any support they need, and we are grateful to hear the young officials appear to be in good spirits and looking forward to their next game.”

They also quickly condemned the violence shown by the suspect.

“There is absolutely no place in hockey, or any sport, for the behaviour that occurred on Sunday. The Pacific Northwest Amateur Hockey Association (PNAHA) and USA Hockey are leading an investigation, and we have been assisting them since the incident occurred. The person in question has been banned from our facility.”

The person involved in the assault has been suspended from any participation in all USA Hockey-sanctioned activity within the jurisdiction of the PNAHA, including games and practices.

“We will continue to emphasize that respect for officials and adherence to USA Hockey’s Zero Tolerance Policy are not just expectations—they are fundamental to the integrity of the game,” PNAHA president Jody Carpenter said. “PNAHA remains committed to ensuring that hockey is a safe and positive environment for everyone involved.”
