Do you miss CDs, DVDs and Blu-ray discs? After a year-long hiatus, a HMV store is returning to downtown Vancouver late this fall.

HMV will be opening a new 3,000 square foot, permanent location at 1148 Robson Street (between Thurlow and Bute) on December 1.

“It has been an exciting year for us as we continue to see a significant peak in our business and we are extremely thrilled to be bringing that momentum back to busy Robson Street” said Nick Williams, President and CEO of HMV Canada, in a statement. “There is a strong misconception that film and music buyers have switched to the digital form, but as evident in our results and 40 per cent market share, the demand for physical CDs and DVDs is very strong.”

“As Canada’s top entertainment retailer it is both our pleasure and duty to deliver this experience to our customers across the country and we look forward to, once again, serving them in Vancouver.”

This comes after two previous locations on the major shopping thoroughfare in recent years.

In 2005, HMV took over the massive Virgin Megastore space at the old public library building at Robson and Burrard. The three-floor, 30,000+ square foot store closed in early-2012 as part of a corporate restructuring plan spearheaded by the company’s new owner Hilco UK. The space reopened in August 2013 as one of Victoria’s Secret largest flagship stores.

A temporary HMV store opened across the street in September 2013 at the space now occupied by lululemon athletica’s new flagship store.
