Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton coming to Vancouver in 2014 for talk

Former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will be coming to Vancouver in 2014 to deliver a major keynote speech.

The event is scheduled for Wednesday, March 5, 2014 and will be organized by the Vancouver Board of Trade’s Women’s Leadership Circle.

Hillary’s 2014 keynote speech in Vancouver comes after the recent cancellation and postponement of the City of Surrey’s sixth annual Regional Economic Summit. Surrey organizers were unable to find a big name speaker and were also rejected by Hillary Clinton.

Earlier this year, the former First Lady, Senator and close runner-up to the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination decided to engage on a major after-dinner speaking circuit.

Her decision to sign up with the same firm that represents her husband and go on a major speaking tour likely comes from the need to raise funds for her much-rumoured and anticipated 2016 presidential campaign.

Hillary will need to begin building up her war chest in advance of her fight for the Democratic nomination which will begin in 2015. She spent $106 million on the campaign trail from 2007 to 2008 before suspending her campaign to endorse Barrack Obama.

Each speech she delivers is expected to add six-figure dollars to her war chest. Former President Bill Clinton reportedly gave more speeches leading up to the 2008 campaign as a means of assisting with his wife’s campaign finances.

Since leaving office in 2001, the former president has earned an estimated $89 million on the speaking circuit, including many stops in Vancouver over the years.
