Hikefest 2016 explores beauty of Sea to Sky this weekend

Get your hiking boots on! A new festival is coming to the Sea To Sky Gondola this Sunday to celebrate all things hiking and backcountry.

Hikefest 2016, taking place on the summit near Squamish, will feature a hiking fair full of vendors like North Face and Arc’teryx from 11 am to 4 pm.

There will also be beginner family tours of the Alpine Valley at various intervals during the day, live music by Cam Salay and photo ops with an eagle and an owl.

If you’d like to go on a guided hike, you’ll need to pre-register. Here’s the timetable:

9 am – Sea to Summit Trail hike

  • Duration: 3-4 hrs
  • Meeting place: Outside Guest Services/Retail store at base
  • Rating: Intermediate/Advanced

9:15 am – Via Ferrata experience

  • Duration: 1.5 hrs
  • Meeting place: Base of the gondola
  • Rating: Beginner

10 am – Al’s Habrich Trail: Full Version to pond

  • Duration: 4 hrs return
  • Meeting place: Lower Plaza at summit
  • Rating: Intermediate Advanced

10:30 am – Sparky’s Spin

  • Duration: 1 hr
  • Meeting place: Lower Plaza at the summit
  • Rating: Intermediate

10:30am – Half Version Sky Pilot

  • Duration: 4 hrs
  • Meeting place: Lower Plaza at the summit
  • Rating: Advanced

11 am – Via Ferrata experience

  • Duration: 1.5 hrs
  • Meeting place: Meet at Summit Plaza, Mountain Skills Academy & Adventure tent
  • Rating: Beginner

Noon – Al’s Habrich Trail: Half-version to first view point

  • Duration: 2.5 hrs
  • Meeting place: Lower Plaza at the summit
  • Rating: Intermediate

1 pm – Via Ferrata experience

  • Duration: 1.5 hrs
  • Meeting place: Meet at Summit Plaza, Mountain Skills Academy & Adventure tent
  • Rating: Beginner

2 pm – Al’s Habrich Trail: Half-version to first view point

  • Duration: 2.5 hrs
  • Meeting place: Lower Plaza at the summit
  • Rating: Intermediate

2 pm – First Nations Talking Trees Tour

  • Duration: 1 hr
  • Meeting place: Lower Plaza at the summit
  • Rating: Easy

3 pm – Via Ferrata experience

  • Duration: 1.5 hrs
  • Meeting place: Meet at Summit Plaza, Mountain Skills Academy & Adventure tent
  • Rating: Beginner

3 pm – Wonderland Lake Loop hike

  • Duration: 1 hr
  • Meeting place: Lower Plaza at the summit
  • Rating: Intermediate

Access to Hikefest 2016 is free with the purchase of a Whistler lift ticket or with a valid season pass.
