Hey Rosetta! and Yukon Blonde debut scathing anti-Stephen Harper song

Dec 20 2017, 1:48 am

Following in the footsteps of legendary Canadian country band Blue Rodeo, Hey Rosetta! and Yukon Blonde have teamed up to create an anti-Stephen Harper song just two weeks before the October 19 federal election.

The music video titled “Land You Love,” features the two bands on a split screen side-by-side. Hey Rosetta! lead singer Tim Baker wistfully sings cryptic lyrics directed at the Prime Minister of Canada with Yukon Blonde lead singer Jeff Innes joining in halfway through.

“What have we lost, poisoned or crushed?”

“What highest hopes were stolen from us?”

“What holy rolling hills were cut into dust?”

“What voices were stifled, silenced, scared and carried off?” sings Baker.

Some of the more chilling lyrics seem to allude to the missing Aboriginal women across Canada.

“Our women forsaken, forgotten, and lost.”

Throughout the video, Hey Rosetta! cellist Romesh Thavanathan holds signs with lyrics written on them and at the end, the final sign reads “anything but Conservative.”
