The genetics in the Sedin family are strong.

Not only were Henrik and Daniel Sedin Hall of Famers while playing for the Vancouver Canucks, but their fitness levels post-retirement hold up favourably to current pro-hockey players.

And for Henrik Sedin, his son has been making waves in the soccer world for the last couple of years.

Back in 2023, Henrik’s son, Valter, made headlines while playing in the highest professional semi-pro league in Canada as a 16-year-old. Shortly thereafter, he was named to Canada’s national U18 team.

He added to his impressive resume once again with another promotion for Canada, as Valter Sedin was named to the country’s U20 squad on Friday.

Quite the month for the Sedin family, as Valter’s dad and uncle were just named co-presidents of the Canucks.

Valter spent five years in the Vancouver Whitecaps system before joining a U19 team in Sweden back in February, 2025. The eldest son of Henrik plays as a central midfielder.

Canada’s U20 team is set to play at the Maurice Revello Tournament in France beginning on May 31. The tournament is considered one of the most prestigious international friendly tournaments in the world.

Later this year, Canada will compete in the Concacaf U-20 Championship in Mexico from July 24 to Aug. 9. Both events are precursors for the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup and the 2028 Summer Olympics men’s football tournament.

If Valter continues on this trajectory for Canada, could we see another Olympian in the Sedin family?
