Heavy rainfall and wind warning in effect for Metro Vancouver

Dec 19 2017, 8:42 pm

Environment Canada is forecasting another deluge of heavy rainfall for Metro Vancouver, mixed in with strong gusts of wind.

The Pacific low pressure system that is moving across the South Coast will bring rainfall amounts of between 30 to 40 mm to Metro Vancouver. Higher volumes are expected for the North Shore.

Wind will also be a factor in this potent system, with southwest gusts of 50 to 70 km/h. Gusts of up to 90 km/h are expected for the southern areas of the region.

Following Monday’s flooding in the North Shore, the public is being warned to avoid washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts. Drivers are asked to exercise caution when approaching pooling in roads.

Rains and winds will ease this evening as the system moves inland. An incoming high pressure system will temporarily end Metro Vancouver’s storm streak and bring periods of sunshine by early next week.
