OMG: Hamburger $2.85 has a real name (and a new burger)

Known as just “Hamburger $2.85” since its launch, the bare-bones Japanese-style burger food cart on Granville Street at Pender now has a real name, and is about to debut a new burger, too.

Ladies and gentlemen, meet Wakwak Burger.

The food cart shifted over to their official branding in February, and have been teasing their new menu item, Menchi Katsu Burger, since then, too.

Menchi Katsu is a breaded and deep-fried ground meat patty or cake; “katsu” is the word for “cutlet” and “menchi” a modification on the Japanese word for “mince.” Wakwak is going to make a burger out of a menchi katsu, served with sauce, mayo, and shredded lettuce. Let’s not forget, they also expanded their menu not too long ago to include fries (which run $1.95), and still keeps your meal under $10, including drink.

No matter what you call it, Wakwak Burger (that’s going to take some time to get used to saying, amiright?) still makes one of the best burgers in town, particularly at that low, low price point.
