Early Monday morning Vancouver police shut down a few streets in downtown Vancouver after a  man with a handgun walked into the new Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel. The man, believed to be in his early 20’s, walked into the hotel lobby around 2:30 am this morning brandishing a gun.

The standoff continues as the man is by himself on the second floor. Police are negotiating with the individual and far no demands have been made and no one is hurt.

Hotel guests have been told to stay in their rooms. A few streets have been shut down to traffic as  a portion of Canada Place Way, as well as Cordova Street between Thurlow Street and Burrard Street are closed to traffic.
