Welcome, GrowLab winter 2012 cohort!

Dec 19 2017, 2:39 pm

Five new promising startups joined the dream team as Vancouver-based startup accelerator, announced the GrowLab Winter 2012 cohort yesterday. It was time for the five startups announced in May to move forward onto their next adventures and make way for the new guys. The new kids on the block start their intensive 4-month program on Monday, November 26th. This is another exciting announcement for the growing entrepreneurial hub in Vancouver.

What GrowLab offers

Your startup has to be a pretty good one with a sound business plan as there is competition amongst hundreds of startups applying to this program, which runs twice a year. Five companies get accepted into each cohort and can receive up to $25,000 in seed funding as well as the chance at $150,000 in the follow-on funding from GrowLab/BDC. The program wraps up with a visit to the Silicon Valley to meet investors, potential partners and customers, and of course, fellow entrepreneurs.

The new GrowLab winter 2012 cohort

The Winter 2012 cohort is comprised of a diverse group of innovative startups across some of the fastest growing trends in technology:

ePACT is an emergency network that leverages the power of online networking to connect organizations and individuals, share information and communicate before, during and after crises.

Good Momming! gives personalized baby feeding and growth recommendations to new parents. Recommendations are personalized, accessible via mobile and available in real time.

KarmaHire is a cloud recruitment suite for the world’s fastest growing companies to source, screen and hire better talent.

Procurify is a spend management solution for organizations of all sizes. It is an online software that is easy-to-use, secure and cost effective.

SpaceList makes it easy to find the perfect office, retail or warehouse space. SpaceList brings all of Canada’s commercial real estate listings together in one place so you can quickly find a great space for your business.

Both KarmaHire and SpaceList came out of Launch Academy, a Vancouver-based pre-accelerator program that helps entrepreneurs execute on their startups through education, mentorship, lean metrics and networking opportunities. We also interviewed KarmaHire in the summer, and got some insights from the two UBC cofounders.

GrowLab Founders

Under the leadership of Mike Edwards (Initio Group), GrowLab has quickly become one of the top accelerators in North America. “The quality of applicants is really impressive. It was not easy to select just five companies.” said Edwards, GrowLab’s Executive Director. “Startups, both locally and internationally, now see that GrowLab is a game changer. Our founders are committed to adding value and are invested in the success of these companies.”

The five cohort companies are hand picked by GrowLab’s founders, who are world class entrepreneurs and investors: Boris Wertz (Version One Ventures), Leonard Brody(Clarity Digital), Debbie Landa (Dealmaker Media), and Jason Bailey (East Side Games).
