Grouse Grind to remain closed until mid-June

Mother Nature’s stairmaster will remain closed for a little while yet with Metro Vancouver stating that the Grouse Grind probably wont be open until mid-June at the earliest.

Following the recent warm weather the snow and ice that covered the Grind previously has now melted, however crews are now performing maintenance to make sure the trail is safe to use.

“Hikers are reminded to respect the trail closure for their own safety and to allow crews to complete their work,” Metro Vancouver said in a release.

“For safety reasons, crews are required to suspend work if people are on the trail. This causes maintenance delays and will only push the official opening date further.”

The 2017 opening date will depend on how long it takes to complete the necessary maintenance however Metro Vancouver, who are responsible for managing the trail, anticipate it will be ready to use by mid-June.

In contrast the trail was opened on April 31 last year.

The news of its impending opening will be music to the ears of would-be Grinders who, thanks to a particularly snow-filled winter, have had to wait patiently for the infamous hike to open.
