One person suffers life-altering injuries after Granville Bridge crash

A massive crash that occurred on the Granville Street Bridge, sending several people to the hospital, has the Vancouver Police Department looking for witnesses.

The multi-vehicle crash led to the Granville Bridge being closed in both directions for some time, with the VPD suggesting it was closed for several hours.

Now, the VPD Collision Investigation Unit is hoping that witnesses can fill in the gaps after the crash, which occurred Sunday afternoon.

VPD said that it occurred just after 5 p.m. and involved a tow truck, a bus, and two other vehicles.

You can find videos relating to the collision on social media. One of the videos appeared to show one of the vehicles involved driving in an oncoming lane of traffic.

In total, police said that six people were taken to hospital, including one who suffered serious, life-altering injuries. The other five sustained minor injuries.

The bridge didn’t open again until around 10:30 p.m., and the cause of the crash is still under investigation.

“Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage to come forward,” VPD said.

“They are specifically seeking video footage that captured the events leading up to the collision. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Collision Investigation Unit at 604-717-3012 or by email at vpdciu@vpd.ca.”
