Google to retire Songza, merge it with Google Play Music

Songza will be no more thanks to Google’s decision to merge it with Google Play Music.

According to a press release, Songza will cease to exist as of January 31, 2016. The streaming service was acquired by Google in July of 2014, and the creators said in a video they have been building various aspects of Songza into Google Play Music, such as the concierge.

They say they want to focus on building a singular product, hence the merge.

That means Google Play Music will be free and all playlists users have on Songza can be transferred over. Soon, prompts will come up to tell customers they have the option to move their playlists to Google Play Music.

The URL songza.com will no longer be accessible as of the end of January.
