Today’s Google doodle celebrates the 142nd birthday of B.C. artist Emily Carr.
Emily Carr was born in Victoria, B.C. in 1871 and is known as one of Canada’s most renowned artists. Carr was one of the first painters in the country to adopt a modernist and post-impressionist painting style and her work was inspired by the Aboriginals of the Pacific Northwest.
In November, one of Carr’s paintings sold for $3.39 million, making it the highest amount paid for a piece by a Canadian female artist and fourth most valuable ever sold in Canadian art auction history.
