Win 4 general admission passes to Gone Country (CONTEST)

Cancer sucks, which is why it’s important to promote positivity when possible. By attending Gone Country – an outdoor music concert in Cloverdale on Saturday, July 25 – you could contribute towards raising $200,000 towards fighting the disease.

After their mom and a good friend passed away from a long battle with cancer, twin brothers Jamie and Chris Ruscheinski, founders of Twins Cancer Fundraising, decided to host an outdoor concert to raise funds for crucial equipment and cancer research.

There will be plenty of food vendors on site (including vegetarian and gluten free options) as well as alcoholic drinks, energy drinks and water stations. Oh, and did we mention a mechanical bull? Headlining acts at the music festival include popular country performers Blackjack Billy, Tebey and Karen Lee Batten.

Sammy J’s Grill and Bar will be providing food in the designated VIP area of the venue, that is expecting over 500 people this year.

“When I heard the twins’ story I had to get our team involved,” says Mike Gardner, President at Sammy J’s Grill and Bar. “We all have been touched by this disease in some way or another and anything to save lives and take away even one person’s pain is reason enough.”

Gardner met the twins through his wife Karen Lee Batten, one of the headlining country recording artists volunteering her time on stage.

“All of us at Sammy J’s got involved as we believed the twins and all the volunteers work their butts off for a very important cause, and felt we should help make the event even more of a success,” says Gardner. “What makes Gone Country so amazing is the feeling of community and support that everyone has, and how we all bond together to take a negative and turn it into a positive.”

The majority of the money raised will go to the BC Cancer Foundation, which works directly with the BC Cancer Agency. Last year, the money raised was enough to purchase a vital piece of equipment for the BC Cancer Agency, and this year the twin’s are looking to do the same.
