Golden Horn Vancouver Turkish Film Festival brings a new world of cinema

Dec 20 2017, 2:46 am

Presented in partnership with Vancity Theatre, the second year of the Golden Horn Vancouver Turkish Film Festival brings films by Turkish writers, creators, and directors to brand new audiences.

Marking the third and final installment of this year’s Golden Horn Film Festivals across Canada, the Vancouver leg puts over 20 films from a variety of genres – drama, comedy, romance, and more – on display. The festival aims to give filmmakers a platform they wouldn’t otherwise have, injecting new and interesting art into the mainstream, and adding new voices to the scene.

At the opening gala, Golden Horn will screen Not So Far Away from Turkish cinema’s legendary director Türkân Şoray, just one week after it’s debut in Turkey. Not So Far Away tells the story of a big-city night club’s struggles to operate in a hostile and conservative village.
