FEATURED ON THE LISTED GUIDE
The holidays are particularly special in the city, where storefronts are decorated with brilliant baubles and all the commuters are just a little bit kinder in the spirit of the season.
And one of the most exciting things about Christmas time landing in Vancouver is that suddenly, there are way more Instagram-worthy pop-ups, events, and festivities to visit and capture in photos.
- This Christmas festival near Vancouver features one of Canada’s tallest Christmas trees
- CF Pacific Centre hosting annual Christmas tree lighting next week
- Check out the world’s tallest Christmas trees at Capilano’s Canyon Lights this winter
One of the most Insta-worthy experiences you’ll come across this holiday is Glow, an indoor Christmas festival that aims to bring people together to savour the season under the twinkle of a million lights.
The creators of Glow, the Jansen family, have deep roots within their community and have found a way to connect families and neighbours and celebrate the warmth of the season.
First having launched near Vancouver in 2017, Glow popped up in three locations across the country in 2018, and this year will twinkle in eight cities around the world.
And, our city is one of the lucky ones.
Taking over the Harbour Convention Centre on November 21, Glow will feature a light maze and illuminated structures throughout the massive venue. Serving as both a mesmerizing experience on its own, plus an amazing backdrop for holiday photos and flattering selfies, this event is not to be missed.
In addition to Van City, Toronto, Abbotsford, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Halifax, Ottawa, and Odense in Denmark will all experience the magic of Glow. Each location has a different theme, and will offer a custom experience completely different from the previous place.
This year, Vancouver’s theme is “Santa’s Lost Presents.” You’ll be able to help the jolly icon and his elves find the lost gifts as you explore lighted trails, celebrating the magic of Christmas.
You can anticipate hanging lights, a 40ft gold tree, LED swings, a bear garden, and more.
And the cuteness of the experience isn’t limited to the space. Even the drinks have been designed to elevate your Instagram profile, thanks to the special illuminated Glow Cup.
The food-safe plastic light bulb features a twist-on metal cap with a hole for a straw, and three battery powered LED’s on the underside of the cup that will make your beverage — you guessed it — glow.
The cup comes with a standard drink, or you can upgrade to any beverage on the menu… which includes spiked eggnog. Cheers to that.
Overall, 1.5 million people are expected to visit Glow across the holiday season. And you can be one of them.
