News journalists cover towering figures every day, but it’s not often that one gets to show off their own huge stature live on air.
Global BC news anchor Chris Gailus got to do just that in a recently shared behind-the-scenes clip by meteorologist Yvonne Schalle.
In the post on X, Schalle, Gailus, anchor Sophie Lui, and sports director and anchor Squire Barnes all stand up to reveal “The Magic of TV.”

“One of these days we’re all going to have to st… Oh, why don’t we just do it right now?” Barnes prompts. “Everybody stand up.”
“I’ll have to take my heels off,” Lui replies.
“I don’t have any on,” added Schalle.
The broadcast journalists stand up, and the camera pulls back to reveal Gailus’ giant frame.
“See, that’s the real difference,” said Barnes.

Gailus takes the segment in stride, adding, “It is freakish when I look at it like that.” Viewers also enjoyed the off-the-cuff moment with the anchors.
When it happened, I laughed so hard, the camera man must have left the set to capture you all

Gailus is also self-aware of his height on social media. His Instagram bio explains that he is “Taller than I appear on TV.”
