Five-year-old girl seriously injured after tree falls on her in North Vancouver
A five-year-old girl suffered serious injuries yesterday afternoon after being struck by a falling tree while she was playing outside of her North Vancouver school. The North Vancouver RCMP say she has been placed in a medically induced coma as a result.
“Her outcome really is quite serious with head injuries and femur and arm and lung damage,” Corporal Richard De Jong told Vancity Buzz.
The tree was on private property near Highland elementary school. De Jong says they don’t know why the tree fell, and an investigation is underway.
“She ran one way, some kids ran the other and unfortunately she was struck by the tree,” said De Jong.
The accident occurred at about 2:30 p.m. on October 5. No other injuries were reported.
Police aren’t providing further details at this time.
