Vancouver gingerbread house listed for $4.5 million on Craigslist

Just when you were making that seasonally-appropriate joke that the only house you might ever be able to afford in Vancouver is a gingerbread one, a Craigslist poster seems to already have a lock on the cookie-and-candy construction sector.

A humourous “homeowner” is offering their sweet dwelling on the Vancouver Craigslist real estate pages for a mere $4.5 million. This charming fully detatched cottage, located in the city’s prestigious West End, has, according to the ad, just one bedroom, and is one square foot.

The house is quite colourful, and amenities include furnishing, and front landscaping that features a unique walkway and drought-tolerant plants. Judging by the sole image provided, the house has recently had some exterior work done.

Of course, this highly customized “house” is made of gingerbread.

The listing surprisingly survived the night, so it may still be up for grabs, if you just can’t be bothered to craft your own whimsical holiday cookie cottage, but you’ll still have to provide your own baking sheet.

Here’s a screengrab of the ad:

It’s true that we’ve seen significant increases in home prices in Metro Vancouver of late, but at $4.5 million, this tear-down comes in at nearly three times the new local average of $1.2 million. It’s unclear if this gingerbread house owner is actively seeking foreign buyers for this delicious piece of Vancouver real estate.
