Last year the 800 block of Robson was turned into a giant beach called “Picnurbia“. This year it will be full of bean bag/pillows acting as resting spots for Vancouverites as they take a break from wandering the streets of Vancouver.
Pop Rocks is an equal collaboration between AFJD Studio (Amber Frid-Jimenez & Joe Dahmen) and Matthew Soules Architecture. The upcoming installation titled “Pop Rocks” will transform Robson Square into a giant relaxation spot. According to Vancouver Magazine they used Canada Place’s old sail fabric for these giant pillows. They will be filled with recycled styrofoam beads, and strewn about Robson Square.
Just two blocks west there is the mini park just outside Cafe Crepe that is widely used throughout the day.
The city should really consider making Robson Square permanently car/bus free. Or at the very least 6 months of the year.
