Would you pay $10 for cauliflower?

Dec 20 2017, 3:46 am

The exorbitant price hike of cauliflower in Vancouver (and other cities across Canada), caused by the “cauliflower crisis” of 2016, is prompting all sorts of dilemmas for panic-stricken restauranteurs, home cooks, and those who are simply obsessed with the humble veggie.

High demand, a weak Canadian dollar, and severe drought in California, has seen the cost for a single head of cauliflower reach as much as $10 in some grocery stores.

Out of sheer desperation, cauliflower lovers have handed over $10 bills, for this “luxury” item.

Yes, the modest veggie maybe versatile, but would you be willing to pay this much for it?

Determined to find reasonably priced cauliflower, we’ve rounded up a list of supermarkets offering “bargain” cauliflower deals. If these deals appeal to you, you best move quick, as these prices, and the cauliflower themselves, won’t last long.
