Gas-and-dash killer convicted of new crimes: victim's father

The father of a Maple Ridge gas station attendant who was dragged to death under a car back in 2005 says the man responsible for his son’s death has stirred up trouble.

Doug De Patie says Darnell Pratt, who dragged his son, Grant, for a number of kilometres under his car, received a sentence for two crimes committed in the last year.

He says he couldn’t believe the news when he heard it.

“Right now I’m appalled. I’m appalled by his behaviour, I’m appalled by our justice system.”

Doug says after hearing the news, he’s afraid someone else’s family member is going to be put in harm’s way.

He says it’s because Pratt hasn’t been properly rehabilitated.

“The primary goal in sentencing is rehabilitation, but yet the primary goal in incarceration is not rehabilitation. I was led to believe that Mr. Pratt was being rehabilitated. This doesn’t look like someone who has been rehabilitated.”

According to court records, a Darnell Darcy Pratt was found guilty earlier this month of charges of theft under $5,000 and willfully resisting or obstructing a police officer.

Those charges stemmed from an incident back in December of last year.
