From a Garage in East Van to Cannes in one year

Just over a year ago, Bryan Collins, Rob Sweetman, Jeff Harrison and Scot Keith left their Executive advertising jobs to start their own unique advertising and design agency, called One Twenty Three West – named for the longitude of Vancouver.

The agency subscribes to a different business model. Comprised of a small, senior core team, they ramp up with talented contractors from all over the world to tackle projects.

“It’s kind of like the movie business” says Managing Director Scot Keith. “There’s a senior core team that always works on the project and then we cast the rest of the talent based on the project. We put the right people on the right project. And when the movie is over. Everyone goes home. The clients only pay for what they need”.

Just 9 weeks after the agency launched, One Twenty Three West won a Cannes Cyber Lion for their innovative website (123w.ca) created entirely from talent on fiverr.com. A Silver Pencil at the prestigious One Show Awards followed in the Spring.

With clients such as Mercedes-Benz, smart car, 7-Eleven and Kal-Tire the agency has experienced amazing growth in year one. They were asked to present at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity on June 18 alongside other presenters such as Bono, Jonathan Ive from Apple, Sheryl Sandberg from Facebook and Marisa Mayer from Yahoo.

Their presentation video trailer is called “From a Garage to Cannes in One Year” and tells the interesting and innovative story on how One Twenty Three West went from a garage in East Van to 18 clients and speaking on a world stage in a year.
