Vancouver man's Gap Mannequin photo project goes viral

A Vancouver man’s Tumblr photo project of dressing up like Gap store mannequins is gaining global virality.

Steve Venegas’s Gap Mannequin Project began last spring while he went on shopping trips with his wife.

He wanted to make trips to the mall more fun, so his wife took Instagram photos of him dressed like the clothed mannequins found in the store. Venegas works at CBC Music and Radio 3 and is also a local podcaster.

The compilation of Instagram photos were first posted on December 31, 2013 when the Tumblr blog was first launched. To date, his Tumblr already has 10,000 followers and has been featured on outlets around the world such as BuzzFeed, Mashable, The Daily Mail, Good Morning America Online, Glamour Magazine UK, Esquire Espana and USA Today.

“I try on clothes and have my photo taken because it’s funny to dress like a dummy,” writes Venegas. And the people running Gap think so too. According to Gap Inc.‘s corporate Twitter account, Venegas is their new favourite mannequin:
