Game-worn Crosby Olympic jersey costs more than average Canadian rent — for a year

If you’re not all that interested in paying rent for a year or so, perhaps you could own a piece of Olympic history.

As it has done for many previous international events, Hockey Canada is holding an official auction for game-worn jerseys from the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games. While it doesn’t say which game or colour of jersey the winners of the auction will get, they’ll be guaranteed a red or white uniform worn by one of the players at the Winter Olympics.

And perhaps there’s no surprise who’s got the most expensive jersey, with two-time gold medallist and Canadian hockey icon Sidney Crosby being top of the list.

Crosby’s jersey is currently retailing for $32,750. Getting the jersey would cost you $2,729 to pay off in 12 instalments, assuming you found a way to pay it with zero interest.

Notably, that’s higher than the average rent price per month in nearly every Canadian city, with only North Vancouver having more expensive rent prices, per Rentals.ca. Average rent across the country was listed at $2,057, which, again, is cheaper for 12 months than one Crosby game-worn jersey.

Crosby, Connor McDavid, and Macklin Celebrini are the three most expensive jerseys on the team. McDavid’s jersey is currently listed as selling for $26,000, while Celebrini is going for the low, low price of only $15,800.

If you’re only looking at spending around one month’s rent, though, Travis Sanheim is the cheapest jersey on the men’s team, retailing for $2,100 right now.

Where does the money from the Olympic jerseys go?

According to the auction page, the auctions benefit the Hockey Canada Foundation Assist Fund, “to help Canadian families facing financial barriers.”

When does the Crosby jersey auction end?

The auction will close Sunday, Feb. 22, at 11:59 p.m. ET, the same day as the final day of Milano Cortina 2026 (and the men’s gold medal hockey game).
