How much longer can fans enjoy the unravelling of the HBO favourite?

Speaking to the Television Critics Association in Los Angeles, HBO President Michael Lombardo suggested that Game of Thrones may be ending at eight seasons.

The show, which debuted in 2011, is currently on its sixth season.

“I think they’re thinking there’s two more seasons after six,” said Lombardo.

It was previously believed that Game of Thrones would end with seven seasons. However, Lombardo hinted that a possibility of a prequel series is on the table.

“It would really depend fully for us on what they wanted to do,” he said in an interview with IGN. “There’s enormous storytelling to be minded in a prequel if George and Dan and David decided they wanted to tackle that.”

Season six is currently still being shot, and it is said that discussion for season seven is already underway. There are currently five Game of Thrones books — though author George   R. R. Martin is working on “The Winds of Winter,” the series’ sixth book, whose publishing date has yet to be announced. Supposedly Martin is working closely with the crew of the HBO show to ensure the TV series mimics the upcoming book.
