If you’ve been loving the sunshine and heat this week, it’s about to get even warmer, as Friday could be the Lower Mainland’s hottest day of the year so far.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), the forecast for Friday will be sunny with highs of 18°C in Vancouver. However, things really heat up inland, where highs could reach 24°C.

ECCC meteorologist Bobby Sekhon told Daily Hive that temperatures could rise to 25°C in some cities, specifically in areas in the Fraser Valley.

Sekhon noted that Abbotsford will be one of the “warmer sites” on Friday.

“The highest temperature we’ve seen at Abbotsford so far… this year has been 20.4°C on the fifth of April,” he said.

While the sun is expected to stick around for the weekend, temperatures will drop slightly to 15°C by the water on Saturday and Sunday.

The rain is expected to return early next week.

Sekhon added that this month’s weather has been a “cyclical pattern” of rain followed by stretches of sunshine.

However, we’ll have to wait until the end of the month to obtain statistics on whether April’s precipitation levels were lower than usual for this time of year.
