Local grocery store debuts online shopping with refrigerated locker pick-up

Welcome to perhaps the new era in online shopping: Ordering groceries and picking them up from a refrigerated locker, anytime of the day. Fresh St. Market, with locations in West Vancouver and Fleetwood (Surrey), has launched “Click & Collect,” making them the first Canadian retailer to use remote refrigerated lockers for self-serve pick up.

Fresh St. Market’s Click & Collect is based on Australian and European order-pickup models that use refrigerated lockers with pick-up locations scattered throughout cities.

Access is granted with a user-specific pin code, and touch-screen terminals at the locker. Spokesperson Mark McCurdy says shoppers can place their orders online, indicate a pick-up time, receive a text with their pick-up code, then “drive up, cycle up or walk up to our locker units and pick up their groceries.” And, yes–you can even order ice cream and it will stay frozen.

Fresh St. Market’s Click & Collect costs $3.99 per order. Currently they only have lockers located outside their two stores, but McCurdy says they “hope to place more lockers and in more locations, in the near future.”

Several local grocery retailers offer online ordering and delivery, and Superstore recently introduced their curbside order-pickup program in Metro Vancouver and B.C.
