Festivals are an incredible way to experience a vast selection of music over a few short days, an opportunity to strengthen bonds with friends or meet some new ones, become a part of a community of fellow music lovers and ultimately to escape the monotony of daily life. There is a reason why music festivals have grown in popularity in the past decade … festivals are fun!

Locally, the 2015 music festival season is finally upon us. As you pack your bags for the Pemberton Music Festival, which starts later this week, or begin to prepare for the Squamish Music Festival in a few weeks, keep in mind music festivals are much more fashionable than they used to be. While you want to keep comfort in mind, you can still have some fun with your festival fashion.

Spotted at Coachella, arguably the most fashionable music event in the world, were some fresh new festival fashion trends for 2015. Here are the top 6 trends. Which trend(s) will you try out?

Fringe

Fringe on pants, on bags, on shoes; this trend was spotted everywhere. Think 70’s bohemian chic. One piece of advice though …if you’re going to have fringe on your bag, then avoid additional fringe in your outfit. Too much of a good thing can backfire.

Mirrored glasses

Coloured mirror glasses are both trendy and act as a fun way to take a picture of yourself in the reflection of your friends glasses. Bold colours were more popular than run of the mill plain silver mirrored lens – so have some fun with colour. You can make a statement with just your sunglasses!

Wide brimmed fedora hats

Replacing the flower crown of previous years was the wide brimmed fedora hat. Great for blocking the sun’s harsh rays on your face, and also for framing your face. Will also help hide unwashed hair on day three of a music festival.

Patterned loose pants

Easy, breezy and fashionable. These are great for going from high daytime temperatures to the cooler evenings at music festivals. Have fun with the patterns; the louder the better. What a fun way to stand out in the crowd.

Fanny packs

Prepare for a major comeback of the fanny pack; for those too young to recall this trend, it’s a purse strapped around your waist. They were everywhere on the polo fields of Coachella this past April. While I was a bit apprehensive at first, the convenience factor alone is worth testing this trend out. PS – this trend was spotted on both women and men!

Golden temporary body tattoos

No commitment and looks great on sun kissed summer skin! There was specific trend of the actual temporary tattoos, just metallic, and in any place you want. They were seen on arms, legs, middle of the back, exposed midriffs – wherever you feel comfortable sporting them! Best part about this trend? You can wipe off and wear a different one each day.
