A community parklet for Main St at 21st Ave is headed toward fabrication. This fully public space will provide a fun, interactive spot for seating and gathering. This parklet will be among the first to be built under the VIVA Vancouver Parklet Pilot Program, launched in June 2013. This will be the second parklet on Main Street. The other is outside the JJ Bean on Main and 14th.
To Kickstart extra features, hosting business Chocolaterie de la Nouvelle France is raising funds by January 10, 2014: http://www.kickstarter.com/
The chocolaterie will sponsor and maintain the parklet, but shop owner Anne-Geneviève Poitras needs your help to Kickstart extra features for this fully public space. With your help, it will also be the first parklet in North America to have a BIKE BAR.
The project will help add a bike bar and community art wall with local artists commissioned to enhance the parklet. While bicycle ridership on Main St continues to grow, parklet designers at PWL Partnership Landscape Architects are collaborating with Vancouver Cycle Chic and a local bicycle shop to perfect the ride-up bike bar design.
Through VIVA Vancouver, there are three parklets in the city at these locations:
- Parallel Park on 14th Avenue at Main Street
- Urban Pasture on 1000-block Robson Street
- Hot Tubs on East 44th Avenue at Fraser Street.
