Free transit for kids in Metro Vancouver from October 5 to 9

Dec 20 2017, 1:34 am

From Monday, October 5 to Friday, October 9, all elementary and high school students in the Metro Vancouver region will be able to ride public transit for free.

According to TransLink, the offer is part of the transit authority’s International Walk to School Week celebrations when millions of children around the world are encouraged to walk to school. The international campaign encourages parents and kids to walk to school in an effort to increase daily physical activity and promote environmental stewardship.

Fares on all services, including buses, SkyTrain, SeaBus and West Coast Express, will be free for all elementary and high school students carrying a GoCard student i.d. Adults accompanying children are still required to pay their fare during the week.

The limited-time special offer for kids also coincides with the launch of TransLink’s new discounted fares for buses.

On October 5, all bus travel across the entire region will transition into a one-zone $2.75 fare. However, the multi-zone fares will remain in effect for SkyTrain and SeaBus services.
