Free Transit on New Years Eve

It’s almost time for 2011′s grand finale, and to add to the excitement Translink is including free transit for everyone looking to get to their New Year’s party. 

On December 31st after 5pm all Translink services will be free of charge for New Year’s Eve party-goers. Buses, Skytrain, West Coast Express, and SeaBus will be free for riders. Holiday schedule details are available here.

The service will be free into the early morning of January 1st. This will help everyone get home in a safe and quick manner. With this in place there is no need for you to drive into downtown. Leave the car at home and take transit to and from you event. Note that some services will be running as late as 4am, including night buses.

Saturday, December 31 (New Year’s Eve)
Transit Service is free of charge as of 5 p.m. today.

  • Bus service will run usual Saturday schedules with some routes running additional evening/late-night trips after their normal schedules. Use the Trip Planner to check your route and bus times, or read our New Years Eve Additional Bus Service sheet for a list of bus routes that will run more evening/late night trips on December 31.
  • SkyTrain will run usual Saturday schedules with more frequent evening trains and will extend service by approximately one hour on all lines. The last Expo Line train to King George leaves waterfront at 2:16 a.m.; the last Canada Line trains leave Waterfront at 2:05 a.m. (to YVR) and 2:15 a.m. (to Richmond-Brighouse).
  • SeaBus will operate a normal Saturday schedule but will extend service by about one hour with the last sailing from Lonsdale Quay at 2:06 a.m. and Waterfront at 2:20 a.m.
