A&W has announced that all restaurants across Canada will be serving up free root beer all day, from open ’til close on Saturday, July 14, otherwise known as Free Root Beer Day.

It’s an arbitrary day seemingly invented for, and celebrated exclusively by, the fast-food chain that’s best known for its family of burgers and frosty mugs of fountain root beer.

For the burger chain, Free Root Beer Day is just an annual excuse to shamelessly promote its signature cane sugar-sweetened soft drink overflowing with flavours of sarsaparilla and birch root.

Meanwhile, for Canadians coping with a blistering July heatwave, free root beer sounds pretty sweet right now.
