Free Concerts in North Vancouver: Saturday Summer Session Series

The City of North Vancouver has announced the line-up for its newly created series of summer events on Saturdays at Shipbuilders Square at the foot of Lonsdale.

The series will offer FREE evening concert style entertainment with well know performers and musicians primarily from the Vancouver Area. The series will theme different music genres for all to enjoy. Early afternoon will have free interactive art for children and a wide variety of “Painters at the Pier” for all to peruse and enjoy.

The nine Saturdays from July 5 to August 30 will have local Artisan vendors, some food trucks and a beer garden for the 19 and over. Along with free children’s art projects there will be face painters, the balloon man and a variety of children and family fun activities each week. Try your hand at Giant Jenga, or maybe a square dance or two.  Bring your family, bring a chair and come to have fun.

Saturday, July 5 : Theme – Celtic – Recording artists and long-time house band at the Blarney Stone in Vancouver  “KILARNEY” will be the headliner for the kick off Saturday night. Rocking Blend of Irish Party Music,  Oconner Obrien Irish Dancers and the Celtic Ensemble of North Vancouver  local entertainers. “Painters at the Pier” featuring North Shore and Vancouver Juried artists.  Other activities face painting, bouncy castle and the Tumble Bus and art instruction for the kids. A Beer Garden and some Food Trucks.  Opens 3PM – Live music starts at 6:00PM

Saturday, July 12:  Theme — California Dreaming  – Headliner “ FREE FLOW”  California tribute band “Beach Boys” and local band “The Surfajets Surf Guitar”, Hoola Dancers, “Painters  at the Pier” featuring North Shore  and Vancouver Artists.  Kids hoola hoop contest, art instruction for the kids, Tumble Bus and assorted kids games. A Beer Garden and some Food Trucks. Opens 3PM – Live music starts 6PM

Saturday, July 19:  Theme — Roots Rock. Headling Band “HORSE OPERA” –Purveyors of Cosmic Canadiana. The group mixes country, blues , and  Canadiana with a dash of rock and roll.  Roots singer “Jango” , Juried Artist for Painters at the Pier, activities and art instruction for the kids, bouncy castle, face painter and balloon man. A Beer Garden and some Food Trucks. Opens 3PM Live music from 6PM to 10PM.

Saturday, July 26:  Theme – Brazilian – Headliner “THE BOOM BOOMS” Well known Vancouver Soul Band – Performed throughout South America and are influenced by Damian Marley and Bill Withers. These guys are HOT!! Zumba for all led by the North Shore “Z” crew.  Painters at the Pier, Art instruction for kids, giant Jenga  and family activities. A Beer Garden and  Food Trucks. Live Music all” Boom Booms” from   7PM to 10PM

Saturday, August 2: Theme – Country and Western—Headliner “HIGH BAR GANG”. Square dancing with a caller and some teachers – come and learn to square dance. Art instruction for kids, hoola hoops, bubble guy, balloon man and face painters for all. A Beer Garden and  Food Trucks.  Opens 3 PM  – Live music starts 6PM to 10PM

Saturday, August 9:  Theme – Rhythm and Blues – Headliner “H. B. WILD” big 9 piece band just returned from south east Asia touring. Lead by bass player Henri Brown the cousin of Jimi Hendrix and son of Music hall of famer’ Eleanor Collins this band is cool. Juried artists for Painters at the Pier, children’s activities include art instruction, face painters, balloon man and bouncy castle. A Beer Garden and  Food Trucks.  Opens 3PM Live Music from 7PM to 10PM

Saturday, August 16: Theme – Latin : “ALMA CHEVERE” a staple around Vancouver Five piece Latin band that offers Rumbas, Salsa, and Latin songs for every occasion.  Opener is “Animal Atlas” World music band – great enthusiasm and lots of fun.   Zumba for all –dance with your kids or just dance! There will be juried artists for Painters at the Pier, children’s activities, a Beer Garden and  some Food Trucks. Opens 3PM Live music from 6PM

Saturday, August 23: Theme: 60s and the Beatles – The Ultimate Beatles Cover Band “THE FAB FOUR”  Have done concerts all over North America. They have all the costumes and the props to make you think the Beatles have returned.  Bring your dancing shoes this one is going to be one of the best nights of the summer!!!  Juried artists for Painters at the Pier, children’s art instruction, face painters, balloon man and giant jenga. A Beer Garden and some  Food Trucks. Opens 3PM Live music all “The FAB FOUR” 7PM to 10PM

Saturday, August 30:  Theme: Disco Party – Two bands to party for the last Saturday Session.  “MARCH HARE” is Vancouver’s top party band. This one is for everyone to dance and have a great time. Opener is PLATFORM SOUL another kid friendly fun group to sing and dance with. Juried artists for Painters at the Pier, children’s art instruction, face painters, balloon man , bouncy castle and other family activities. A Beer Garden and some Food Trucks.  Opens 3Pm  Live Music from 6PM to 10PM
