On Wednesday, October 10 the Bombay Sapphire Artisan Series is hosting its Vancouver finale exhibition at Gallery Jones on East 1st Avenue. It’s the third year that the competition has taken place in Canada, and you’re invited to check out the local finalists’ work.

Vancouver is a hub for Canadian artists, with Vancouver placing third in North America for its submissions, beating LA and Chicago. In fact, last year’s grand prize winner, Vanessa Lam, is from Vancouver and she went on to do a solo exhibition in NYC in partnership with Artsy.

This year, 28 of Vancouver’s top emerging artists were selected from curators at Artsy to go on and compete in the regional competition. On October 10, you can see the best of Vancouver’s art scene and enjoy Bombay Sapphire cocktails creatively designed by Kevin Brownlee.

Founder of The Jealous Curator, Danielle Krysa, will be one of the three judges selecting the Vancouver winner. Other judges include Pennylane Shen of Dazed and Confucius and Wil Aballe of Wil Abelle Art Projects.

The Vancouver winner will be one of three Canadian winners (Montreal and Toronto also) sent to SCOPE Miami Beach — one of the world’s leading contemporary art fairs. Judges will select a Grand Prize and Second Place prize winner from among 13 regional winners and two online winners a grand finale event in Miami in December.

Attendees at the SCOPE Miami Beach event will also vote and select a People’s Choice winner. If an artist emerges as the Grand Prize winner they’ll receive a $10,000 USD stipend, as well as the opportunity to create a public installation in NYC. Meanwhile, the Second Place and People’s Choice winners will each receive a $3,000 USD stipend to create a solo exhibit at a gallery in their region.

Every year, the Bombay Sapphire Artisan Series sets out to discover the next big name in visual arts and unique talent, and it has been doing so for almost a decade. It gives emerging artists the chance to raise their international profiles and connect them to galleries, collectors, and curators around the world.

Remember to register via Bombay Sapphire to ensure your spot at the Vancouver finale exhibition to avoid missing out on a wonderful art-inspired evening.
