With forecasts calling for rain throughout the Labour Day Long Weekend, the Fair at the PNE has announced that the Fair will open for free admission for those who enter on Saturday, August 30 and Sunday, August 31 before 1 p.m.

“We can’t control the weather, but given the incredibly successful Fair so far, we don’t want the rain to keep people away ” says Mike McDaniel, PNE president and CEO.

“Guest feedback has been extremely positive, crowds have been great and we’ve made the decision not to let this Fair get beat by weather, plain and simple. A lot of people don’t realize that we have over 500,000 square feet of indoor space, and the majority of our big attractions are under cover.”

One third of the Fair’s annual attendance comes during the final weekend coinciding with Labour Day. Over the years, inclement weather has been a major deterrent for fairgoers and takes a significant impact on the event’s revenues.

According to PNE officials, this is the first time in the Fair’s 104 year history that the PNE has offered free admission on Labour Day weekend.

To date, the PNE has reported an exceptional season, with fairgoers giving highly positive feedback on the entertainment and programming, especially with the highly popular Game of Thrones exhibition.

Admission numbers and sales from concessions and vendors have also been up.

Normal admission into the Fair is $16 for adults, although the price is reduced to $13 for those who buy online at www.pne.ca. Children 13 and under can enter the Fair for free.
