Fraser Health has ordered a chicken processing plant in Chilliwack closed because of a COVID-19 outbreak among staff.

Late Thursday night, health officials ordered Fraser Valley Specialty Poultry to remain closed until it can address deficiencies at the site, according to a Fraser Health news release Friday.

All staff at the facility have now been tested for coronavirus infections.

This is the second poultry plant Fraser Health has ordered closed. Superior Poultry Processors Ltd. in Coquitlam was ordered closed on April 24. As of Friday, 49 employees there have tested positive for coronavirus.

There’s also been one coronavirus case detected at Sofina Foods, another poultry plant in Coquitlam, according to Fraser Health. That plant remains open.
