Frankie's: Vancouver's new home for live jazz & blues

There’s a new home for jazz and blues in Vancouver.

A Coastal Jazz initative, Frankie’s Jazz Club has been providing the city with a hub for local and international jazz musicians. And with the TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival around the corner, Frankie’s will be the hot spot over the 10 day festivities.

“It’s quickly become the hub for jazz and blues in Vancouver. Everyone is gravitating to Frankie’s now because this is the premiere flagship Jazz club for the entire city,” said John Orysik, Co-Founder/Media Director of Coastal Jazz/TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival. After launching the club in October 2015, Orysik said concerts have been taking place at the venue on a regular basis Wednesdays through Sunday. “This is the first opportunity for integration of Frankie’s into the Jazz Festival. We’ll have a full line up here every night at 8 p.m and then every night there will be a jam session as well at 11 pm”

The Jazz Festival, which starts on June 24, will feature concerts and events throughout the city of Vancouver. After each main event throughout the 10 days, there will be live jazz at Frankie’s.

Located adjacent to the Georgian Court Hotel, Orysik said the club is downtown, close to public transportation and the sports venues, which allows patrons to visit on a casual basis. “They come and hear the music, feel the energy and the vibe, and stay. It’s been a great situation so far, and we hope that it’s just going to get bigger.”

Besides the upcoming Jazz Festival, Frankie’s Jazz Club will continue to feature both resident and international musicians. “Servicing the jazz audience is something that has been missing in a real concentrated kind of way and now we’re filling that need and creating a lot more interest for the music too,” said Orysik.

As a new venue, there is a lot of opportunity for Frankie’s, and Orysik is looking forward to it. “It’s still growing, and there’s a lot of potential here to make it, not only one of the best clubs in Vancouver but in the country.”
