Forest fire burning atop Burnaby Mountain (PHOTOS)

Fire crews from across Metro Vancouver are reportedly responding to a growing wildfire in the forests of Burnaby Mountain.

The blaze began earlier this morning on the north slope of the mountain facing Burrard Inlet.

The fire is a few hundred metres away from the Simon Fraser University campus and residential buildings. At this time, no evacuation orders have been issued.

Certain roads on the mountain are closed due to the fire:

  • Intersection of University Drive East and Halpern Lane
  • Arts Road
  • Parking Lot C
  • Roundabout in the University Drive East up until Parking Lot C
  • East campus road up until the Cornerstone bus loop

UPDATE at 1 p.m. – The fire has been contained by firefighters.
