For the third year in a row, food trucks at the VFM‘s Winter Farmers’ Market are participating in Food Truck February, where they showcase an original Market Menu item as part of a month-long competition.
The food trucks are out in full force during February at the Market to take part in the contest that works as a sort of audition for the Vancouver Farmers’ Market’s summer market roster.
Every Saturday in February the scheduled food trucks will have one special item on their menu that was created for the contest, showcasing fresh seasonal produce customers will find at the vendors’ stalls.
Food fans can cast votes for their favourites to determine the Best Market Menu Item, while a panel of judges (disclosure: I’m one of the four) sample and select their Judge’s Choice. Plus, there’s top spot up for grabs for the food truck that uses the most local ingredients in their dish.
The full Food Truck February schedule and menu is online via the VFM’s blog so you can plan your visits accordingly. The dishes range from lattes to poutine to salads to breakfasts to sweet treats–a real feast from the farmers’ market.
Don’t forget to snap a pic of your Market Menu picks, and share on social media with the hashtag #foodtruckfeb. Plus, on Instagram the VFM will pick a winning shot from photos tagged @vanmarkets and #foodtruckfeb and award them with a Winter Market Survival Kit (VFM toque, umbrella and coffee mug).
One important note is a bit of a location change for the Winter Farmers’ Market. As of February 14, you’ll find the Market at Riley Park, just across from the former location in the parking lot of Nat Bailey Stadium.
When: Saturdays in February, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
