27 chilling photos of Vancouver covered with fog

A blanket of freezing fog covered much of the Metro Vancouver region this morning, causing roads and other surfaces to slick up with ice .

Freezing fog occurs in the same way fog normally forms, except that temperatures are within freezing or subzero levels. When this happens, water droplets in the air become supercooled and remain in liquid form, even in the freezing conditions.

However, the droplets in the freezing fog will freeze when they come into contact with a surface. The phenomenon usually appears as feathery ice crystals.
