Recently, I had the chance to chat with Flip Flop Shops’ 4th Avenue owner Fiona Rintoul (size 7) about the success Flip Flop Shops has had in Vancouver and its future in BC. With spring in full force and summer just around the corner, this was the perfect time to discuss flip flops. Fiona and I also decided to giveaway a $50 gift card to one lucky reader. Not too shabby with beach season coming up.

Vancity Buzz: How long has Flip Flop Shops been at the 4th Avenue Location?
Fiona: Our doors have been open for one year now on 4th Ave. We’ve been helping people “Free Their Toes” since April 2009.
Vancity Buzz: Are there any other (or planned) locations in Vancouver or BC?
Fiona: We are hoping to see our friends in Kelowna open sometime this year. Two shops are underway on Vancouver Island as well, so it’s a very exciting time for Flip Flop Shops in BC.
Vancity Buzz: I’ve always wondered how does the shop do during the Fall and Winter months?
Fiona: Flip Flop Shops has a lot of fun with our products for Fall and Winter. We still carry an awesome selection of the hottest brands of flip flops and sandals – everyone needs flip flops for their holidays, for trips to the gym or yoga studio, for wearing around the house, or even for those sunny days we get at that time of year. We also bring in fleece-lined Sidewalk Surfers by Sanuk which, if you haven’t tried them on, you have to put on your shopping list for Fall. They’re like wearing pyjamas on your feet but they look like shoes. We also carry Emu Australia, which is now featuring waterproof sheepskin boots, and we’re choosing a few key rain boots for Fall as well. Reef, one of our favourite brands, has killer slippers in their holiday line, so we’ve got a solid range of gear for every season.
Vancity Buzz: What are your best sellers?
Fiona: We work with awesome brands so we’ve got a lot of styles that consistently sell out, but probably the fastest moving products are the Yoga Mat (by Sanuk,) the Fanning (by Reef,) the Top and Brazil styles (by Havaianas,) and the Ohana (by OluKai.) Right now we’ve also got Tube Flops from Sanuk, which are flying out of the shop!
