5 people overdose at Coquitlam house

Jul 11 2016, 11:38 pm

It was a close call last night for five people in Coquitlam after surviving multiple drug overdoses.

Coquitlam RCMP Staff Sgt. Jack Raffle says they’ve talked to the individuals and they are cooperative, “realizing that they are pretty lucky.”

Before eleven last night, RCMP were called to a house at Como Lake and Macintosh Street, where there was already ten ambulances and seven fire trucks on scene.

RCMP could not confirm if fentanyl was involved.

The BC Coroners Service says there continues to be a noticeable spike in the number of drug-related deaths, estimating that 56% of overdose deaths in 2016 will be related to fentanyl.

Raffle says there is no risk to the public.
