Five Hole For Food Vancouver

Dec 19 2017, 12:25 pm

Five Hole For Food started as a hockey trip across Canada but then road hockey enthusiast, and pilot of the trip Richard Loat (a good friend of Vancity Buzz), thought that it could be so much more.
The concept of incorporating some sort of charity to benefit local communities led to a discussion with Winnipeg game host Jimmy Mac who coined the phrase “Five Hole for Food”. From there it has evolved into a social media effort of networks and partners to create a cross country food drive where hockey fans play a variation of the game and the local community benefits.

After putting the word out to bloggers and hockey fans alike, Richard rounded up a team of bloggers in the local cities who have come on board to support the cause. Five Hole For Food features fans of every Canadian team and the trip stops in each NHL city as well as in cities that don’t have an NHL Franchise. The trip unites fans of the Canucks, Canadiens, Leafs, Oilers, Flames and Senators for one cause in the name of the greatest sport on earth.
The trip spans a period of 10 days; will see the first ball dropped in Montreal on June 29th and then travel west hitting Ottawa, Toronto, Winnipeg, Regina, Calgary, Edmonton, and Victoria before the last ball is dropped on the final game in Vancouver. This is a coming together of fans and of teams as we partner with hockey teams in each of the local cities at the NHL, AHL and ECHL level to promote a food drive the likes of which this country has never seen before!

Details on the Vancouver event:

Vancouver is where the idea was born, and where the trip will finish. After starting the trip on June 29th it’s all going to culminate in the biggest game of the trip as we play hockey in the home of the Vancouver Canucks and do battle for the last time on the trip.
