Twitter turns 10: Here are the first tweets of famous Vancouverites

Dec 20 2017, 4:52 am

Here’s something that’s sure to make you feel old: Twitter turns 10 today. That’s right, the social media giant that allows anyone to have a voice – for better or for worse – is now a decade old.

To celebrate, we dug deep into the archives of Twitter (ok, we might have just used this app) and discovered the very first tweets of 10 notable Vancouver and B.C. personalities.

Ryan Reynolds

Ryan Reynolds first tweet was, well, a retweet. But it was for a good cause.

Seth Rogen

The comedian kept it simple. He is Seth. He tweets. Five years later, his Twitter bio still reads “I… Tweet!!!!!!”

Jason Priestley

The Beverley Hills 90210 star and graduate of North Vancouver’s Argyle Secondary School tweeted about being on Twitter. That first little tweet got no love. Sad face.

David Suzuki

The environmental activist first used Twitter to bring attention to carbon offsets.

Carly Rae Jepsen

Carly is finally on Twitter! The singer from Mission joined the site March 17, 2009. So tweet us, maybe?

Michael J. Fox

Michael J. Fox apparently feels very passionately about NBC’s Sunday night game theme music. Wonder how Joan Jett feels about it all?

Premier Christy Clark

Premier Christy Clark first tweeted before she was even premier and was still an on-air host at CKNW. Apparently she had a great vacation in August of 2009.

Mayor Gregor Robertson

Before he was tweeting about all things Vancouver, Mayor Gregor Robertson was, well, learning to tweet. Looks like ol’ Gregor has the hang of it now.

Pamela Anderson

Former Baywatch babe and current animal activist Pamela Anderson tweeted about her natural line of products in 2009.

Bryan Adams

Bryan Adams remembers his first twit.

And if you want to follow some Vancity Buzz staffers…
