An American vessel that crossed over into Canadian waters has been sent home with a few thousand dollars in fines for their trouble.

According to Canadian Border Services, on Monday, August 31, they received an alert from the coast guard about the watercraft.

“A total of $2,000 in fines were issued for failing to report to the CBSA upon arrival and violation of the Quarantine Act,” the CBSA wrote on Twitter.

The vessel was reportedly directed back to the US.

“We continue work with our on-water partners during [COVID-19] and remind boaters that the border remains closed to non-essential travel,” the Canadian Coast Guard said on Twitter about the incident.

The US-Canada border currently remains closed until at least September 21 due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
