Find The Right Face Oil

Dec 19 2017, 9:48 am

Face oils have been in the spotlight for a bit now and are slowly taking over my life. I’m going to predict that facial milks will the next big hype product!

At first I was extremely wary of putting oils on my face, fearful of them breaking me out and clogging my pores – but after a bit of research I learned that oils provide an abundance of skincare benefits. It is suggested that most oils should be patted into your skin versus massaging it in – just be sure to read the usage directions before application to be safe. Applying your skincare in order of thickness is key – this usually means that oils are applied after serum but before moisturizer.

There is an oil for every skincare need, it’s just a matter of finding the one with the right ingredients! Below is a list of a few popular concerns/wants and products that will work best for each category.

John Masters Organics Pomegranate Nourishing Oil ($42)

When a product states that it has anti-aging properties it means that it will also work great for dry skin due to the extra hydration it’s packed with! This product contains several organic ingredients like sage, almond oil, carrot oil, rosewood oil and pomegranate seed oil, which acts as a great antioxidant for your skin. It’s suggested that this product be massaged into your skin versus patting.

Available at: Beauty Mark – 1268 Pacific Blvd

Algenist Advanced Anti-Aging Repairing Oil ($94)

The micro-algae oil combined with the ceramides and brown algae extract in this product will leave your skin looking firmer and more radiant all while restoring the elasticity of your skin. The micro-algae also aids in decreasing the visibility of fine lines and wrinkles.

Glow and Radiance

Josie Maran Argan Oil ($20-$125)

I couldn’t write about facial oils and not mention this stuff. This oil has literally changed my skincare routine for the better! It is gentle enough for all skin types and leaves your skin with a youthful, dewy glow. This multi-purpose product can be used on your face, body, hair and cuticles to aid in hydration.

There is also a light version of this oil that is more ideal for oily skin due to the decrease of omega fatty acids that the original version contains. If you have sensitive or break-out prone skin, the light version is proven to reduce your skin’s sebum production (skin congesting oil secretion of the sebaceous glands).

Available at: Sephora

Fresh Seaberry Moisturizing Oil ($29 – $59)

Get your glow on with this nutrient infused oil that will leave your skin refreshed! Seaberry (Seabuckthorn) is a natural oil native to Siberia that has been used as a natural cure for generations.  The omegas in this product quench and calm your skin to give you a lit-from-within look. If you can get past it’s slightly unpleasant scent, it’s amazing!

Available at: Sephora

Oily Complexions

Kate Somerville Dilo Oil Restorative Treatment ($78)

Dilo oil, a rare oil from Fiji, is known for its many restorative benefits that improve the look of firmness/elasticity, even skin tone and reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles. The sheer oil creates balance on the skins surface that lifts the skin and primes it for makeup application.

Eminence Herbal Recovery Oil ($88)

This product is ideal for oily skin. It contains both clary sage oil as well as ylang ylang which help balance the skins oil production. It is also extremely lightweight and smells great!
